This is to continue from my previous blog on enabling Virtualization on my Windows 7.
There are two type of virtualization in Windows 7, the first one
Windows XP Mode and Windows Virtual PC
Both of them available on Windows 7 Professional and Windows 7 Ultimate, allow you to run multiple Windows environments.
Windows XP mode will allow you to run a Windows 7 incompatible program to run in Windows7 as if it is running within the O/S
Edge technet give a good video on how this is running in Windows 7 (http://edge.technet.com/Media/Windows-XP-mode-for-Windows-7/)
In this screen cast we have a look at how it is setup up, what users see and get an idea of what it can do.
To run Virtual PC, meaning running a completely Different O/S here are the steps by steps on how to do it 🙂 :
Click on Windows Virtual PC mode to run the Virtual PC program, this is where you see the Virtual PC windows which is basically similar with your normal windows explorer windows.
To create a new virtual O/S simple clicking the Cretate Virtual Machine Button on the top of window
A wizard windows to create a virtual machine
Specify Memory RAM
Specify The hard-disk or attached an VDH file
and then that’s it your Virtual O/S is created.
To install the O/S , right click the virtual O/S and attached the ISO file into the DVD drive
Attached the DVD drive to an ISO image which is the O/S image. For this blog i am using Windows 2003 ISO installation file.
There you go, ready for your O/S installation.
